One the most beautiful things about being minimalist is being able to see the potential in the things we already have. Whether it's an old or abandoned item, we think of what life to give it instead of throwing it away totally.
It's a good thing I know how to make and design dresses so I instead of tossing out old clothes, I've started asking, "What else can this become?"
So today that question led me to turn an old shirt that I had that I didn't like anymore into a cute cropped top...and it really felt good giving it a second chance.
So I had this shirt that had been hanging around for a few years, it didn't fit quite right, or let's just say it has always been too big but the fabric was still in a good shape. So instead of letting it gather dust or toss it out, I decided to give it a little snip and stitch.
A little repurposing process
Im adding the steps here in case anyone wants to see how I made this !
Ok first I laid down the shirt and gave it a nice pressing!
Then I measured 10 inches on the sleeve and cut out, then marked out my half length at 16 inches and cut out too
Next I used the hemming gum for the sleeve and the down part to achieve a good and neat hem
Next I used the down part of the shirt I cut out to cut the two cargo pockets in front. And then the sleeve band for the pocket cover. I two pairs of the pocket one serve as lining
So now I had the shirt and the pockets with it's cover.
Next was to fix the pockets and the cover to it
I wanted to add a little design so I added this pink design to it using my candle gum, I used it to line the pocket cover and I think it was really cute
So below is how it turned out finally.
And this is how it looked on me below:
The project was less than an hour and the transformation was quick, satisfying, and eco-friendly. I totally loved working on this!
I loved how simple and breathable the crop top turned out, also it felt entirely new. I paired it with my high waist Cargo trouser also made by me , it felt like I actually added a new piece to my wardrobe, without spending a dime. . It’s moments like this that remind me why I love minimalism: less waste, more creativity, and a deeper appreciation for what I already have. The satisfaction is amazing.
Upcycling the old shirt wasn't just about me trying to be fashionable, it's also about shifting my mindset. Minimalism to me realty means making more out of what I already have!
