I like to call my "me-time" a sanctuary — like a sacred place for one to retreat, recharge and reconnect with ourselves more and in the end, we feel much better, rejuvenated and relaxed for the next task ahead of us. With the hustle and bustle of life, trying to work to meet deadlines, attending to a whirlwind of responsibilities and heeding obligations, amidst the chaos of life, we want to find somewhere to relax and rest our heads and bodies before we continue the journey again. Creating that me-time is necessary to help you recover and reconnect yourself back again.
At my me-time, I don't let any distractions in at all but focus on myself, trying to find my purpose and letting my mind work on its own, releasing myself from the workload that has mounted my head. I am a firm believer in giving oneself quality self-care through the practice of me-time and I do not hesitate to find time for it when the need arises. Join me as I take you on the activities that help me relax properly by giving myself that time alone amidst life's complexities.
Sitting around Nature.
This is not a 'first-time' thing for me or anyone reading this. Nature is a blessing to mankind and we need to appreciate God for this. For each day, I find myself sitting under this tree with my earpiece plucked in my ears listening to music or watching a movie as the fresh air finds itself in my body system. Through this, I feel relaxed and it would be as if something heavy was being lifted off my head as everything would become light through the sounding breeze that passes through me. I feel at that time, it was trying to communicate to me and saying, "Don't worry, I am here for you. Take your time to stay here and enjoy my service." It's always heavenly and by the time I am done sitting under the tree, I feel so relieved and refreshed.
Journaling
One thing I do not fail to do is take my jotter to jot down my thoughts. When I am observing my me-time, I switch off my data, put my phone on silent and start scribbling down my thoughts. Many times, I formed some characters in my head and would start talking to myself like a drama. I write a lot of things; what my future would look like, how much I would need to make something achievable, my plans for my siblings and Dad, etc. I keep writing down whatever comes out of my mind into the jotter and this way, I would feel so light believing that I have just downloaded those worries out of my head.
Praying
Prayer is a way to talk to God. I have come to that level where I would just sit down alone, sharing my mind with God and it would look as if I am speaking to someone sitting in front of me while listening to all I am saying. During this period, I don't let any distractions in especially from my phone because I find such a moment sacred and special. By the time I am done, it would be as if I have just given myself some encouragement to keep moving despite how things are. I love talking to God just to free myself from whatever doubts are in me and in the end, I have strong faith that my request would be granted.
All of these activities and many more I couldn't list have helped me so much to detox and help to maintain my balance in life and most importantly, to help me cope with the challenges I face every time. Me-time is like a ritual to me which I do not hesitate to practice every time as I understand its impact on my wellbeing in general.
