If you are on a weekend trip, do not carry too many things that you will never need. So I suggest packing smart for your trip rather than taking showpieces with you. As far as I am concerned, I am a travel freak, and when it comes to traveling, the first thing that comes to my mind is, “What’s in my bag?”
I am okay with my jeans, so I keep a few track pants, shorts, and inner wear and my slippers. I carry no extra pairs of shoes but always start with a pair of shoes according to the place I have planed to visit.
I think the best way to go out on a weekend trip is to go with your walking shoes on. So I pack my slippers that doesn’t take much space and goes into the side pocket of my carry bag. But if you must carry another pair of shoes, choose the one that fits best in your bag for that journey.
I keep a few extra sets of my undergarments, including socks, because these are the items I can’t compromise. Besides, these items do not occupy much space and keep me comfortable. I don’t use towels provided by hotels these days so I keep my personal towel in my bag. I roll a light-weight one and put it on one side of the clothes in a rolled position.
I always carry a formal set of clothes just in case the need arises. So I use a thin sheet of tissue paper to cover them and then place them in the center of other clothes to keep them crease-free.
I carry my own toiletries these days, so a bottle of handwash, my shaving kit, and a few packs of paper soap, besides toilet paper roll, are always there in my bag. And yes, a small first-aid kit comprising emergency tape, a few paracetamol tablets, and a bandage is sufficient.
I keep all my gadgets in my laptop bag to keep them safe. For me, gadgets are the most delicate and expensive parts of my belongings. Apart from my phone, which sits in my pocket, the rest of the items like chargers, headphones, and data cables all go in the pockets of my laptop bag.
But if you want to carry something in the bag at the last minute, you should leave some space for it. Once I am done with packing, I check everything once again to make sure there is nothing left.
Often, people are a little tense about packing before going on a journey. So I suggest making a checklist and sticking to it.
If you are going on a journey with friends, then ask them about what they are carrying with them. Maybe that will save you from carrying a few duplicate items.
Don’t forget to pack your ticket, identity card, vaccination card, and your credit/debit card, besides other necessary things. Apart from this, the place of visit is very important so we need a few items that come in handy, just in case.
For instance, I always carry clothes according to the location I visit, but I always keep a light raincoat made of thin but sturdy plastic sheet that weighs under 100 gms and comes in a handy packing for a single use, but it helps a lot. We call it emergency poncho but I am not sure it's the same for you.
So I am ready with three tees, two sets of underclothes, a couple of track pants, and a short. I have my extra masks in my bag, a slipper, my shaving kit, a small first-aid kit, towel and I have just weighed all my luggage. It’s less than 5 kg. A final suggestion, whatever footwear you start with, it should be strong and branded so you don't get stranded on the way or spend money for buying a new pair.
