At least once a year I have a little "declutter" session, one that goes on for a few weeks at least. Long ago it used to be the "out with the old, in with the new" method, but as I grow older, I understand that adding in "the new" isn't always necessary.
In the past few years I've been focusing more on "decluttering" than I ever have, cutting out some "excess" weight. I've never even had a huge list to begin with, so it surely wasn't a tough "tradition" to become habituated to.
But this year the "baggage" I've decided to let go of has exceeded the limits, striding long and far, over my previous declutter sessions. Around last year I got rid of a lot of my possessions from my "gadget collection", back then I really had no choice but to get rid of them, but now when I look back, I'd say that I did the right thing.
Fast forward to the present, thanks to this sudden plan of ours to move to a more snug apartment, it has actually left me no choice but to "unload" some unnecessary baggage, a load of baggage which at one point seemed quite necessary.
I started off with some old, yet fairly new clothes; a bunch of clothes that I barely got to wear, or maybe just decided to ditch, while always reaching out for my favorites ones instead.
Our previous security guard came up to me and said that it would be great if we could provide him with some warm clothes for the winter, so I did just that. I went back home that day and piled up about 4 to 5 pants/joggers and a few shirts and t-shirts for him. I also had two pairs of shoes which didn't fit me anymore; yet, they were still quite solid and in good condition. I handed them over to him on the next day, asked him if they'd fit him, and he said that those shoes would probably be a perfect fit for his son.
The man asked for nothing more, and was happy after receiving the clothes and shoes, and I too was happy to help. I also handed him a little tip, because he has always been around when needed and has maintained his guard duties well.
After that I went ahead and got rid of some office papers; older documents, archives, paperwork related to our business and all. I've been holding onto some of these papers for a while now, thinking that they might come in handy in future deals and meetings. But now after quite a few years, it seems that they'll be better off in the trash.
Even though the "baggage" I got rid of so far wasn't much, I still do feel lighter than before.
I do have a few more things to get rid of, quite a few "mental tasks" that have taken up some free real estate on my mind for quite a while now. Tasks that also require fairly less bodily effort.
A list of a few issues let's say, that have built up over the years, ones that require some attention and need to be solved. But right now it seems that it will be taking quite a bit of time to get rid of these hurdles, because they surely aren't as minuscule; not as easy as just throwing or giving them away, if only that was possible...
Nevertheless, I am hoping to tackle these issues soon, getting rid of them one by one, until I'm as light as a feather; no more obstructions to keep me away, nor hold me down, from my very scattered and aimless platform.
