How much is enough ?
Came back from my native after spending a week with my parents and I was very happy to see things going a little better now. Four months after the surgery, Mom has kind of adjusted to his new health condition without the gall bladder. When they remove it, they barely tell you the full consequences and you realize the reality only after facing and there is nothing that you can do. We even consulted the doctor about the occasional pain she was getting and other than counseling her to bear with patience, there was no other treatment done. Human psychology is wired for adaptation and changing her perspective and shifting her mindset has probably helped her a lot. Now all they look forward is to live the quietest phase of life with contentment - the Ultimate Flex.
Dad has only one agenda - bring him the cash to manage the house ( he just pays the fund, but we want him to continue doing that, so that his mind is happy as he was a Banker), so he expects me to come at least once in a month and get the funds needed for monthly expenses, from bank. He is absolutely outside of the digital world and has no interest in even exploring them. He is least bothered about anything else - three meals and fifteen hours of sleep ( I always wonder how he can sleep for so long!!) Mom is always behind him to walk few steps at least and take his medicines in time. She packs his medicine in organizers and makes sure to give him three times daily - her loyalty and dutifulness is rare.
We often talk on regular basis and before going, I plan and pack most of the things including her choice of foods - they need very little but that little too much. And then during my stay, we complete all other tasks that is necessary to be completed before my next visit. She will have a full list of physical tasks that I take care before coming so that, she does not need to do any strenuous task. This time plucking Mango was on the top of agenda😀- more to come on that....
And that's enough for them - "enough" representing the internal landscape of equilibrium, desires matching current reality, appreciating current, reliable stability....True wealth is the absence of need and being content with what we have - the ultimate expression of abundance because it shifts the focus from accumulation to appreciation. Absence of anxiety is the true representation of abundance and we all need to focus to achieve that as we age - medicine still does not have a permanent cure for anxiety. We need to define how much is enough for us - that boundary which will prevent us from endlessly chasing a moving goalpost. I personally have gone through a lot this year and Spirituality helps a lot - of late I have been closely involved with Spirituality...I am planning to prepare some content on that as well.
