Minimalism to me is a life changer, it has taught me how to live life freely with the idea that I don't need a ton of material possessions to be mentally stable or happy.
Before I got used to spending less and saving more, I was the type to buy every cloth in the market whenever I passed by it as long as the color was what I liked. After purchasing these clothes, I figure that I tend to not wear them because on getting home, I discover that something somewhere is wrong with it or it doesn't fit perfectly. With this attitude of buying things out of budget, I spent more on quantity than on quality and at some point got these items on credit even without having any idea of where I was gonna get the money to pay back from. My small room was getting stuffy and overcrowded with unnecessary things making the space so uncomfortable for me, depriving me of a good sleep and creating a path for mental disorder.
I wasn't at peace at all because Everytime back then I thought of how many people I was indebted to. I began hating my home and one day, while surfing through Pinterest, I read something that talked of my kind of lifestyle and how to deal with it. I seized that moment and decided to turn a new leaf starting from emptying my closet and picking out clothes that were of no use to me and giving them out.
I cleared my table, opened my windows, took out some old school books that were torn and when I was done for the day, I figured out the space I had in the room which wasn't there before and I was glad I could finally breathe. Ever since, my journey to physical and mental freedom began. Most of the people I bought things from wondered why I stopped and even questioned my actions after I had managed to pay off the debts but I told myself I wasn't going back.
My mental and physical freedom:
When I spent unwisely, it was because I wanted to fit into the group of people who had lots of clothes and bragged about it but minimalism has helped me cut costs and has promoted contentment in my life.
Taking up a minimalist lifestyle for me meant freedom from worries about the latest fashion or food trend which I couldn't afford and lots more other things that aren't necessary in my life at the moment. Trending fashion can get one mentally unstable because of fomo(fear of missing out) but with minimalism always in check, I know how to cut meaningless expenses.
It's one thing that has helped relieve me of mental stress. I don't have to own all the things in the world to be happy and of course it allows for having more time to prioritize the important things and also reach goals which gives inner peace, mental stability and satisfaction.
If I'm in place to convince my best friend about how minimalism could help her, I'll say it pays to be minimal because:
It helps in promoting a routined life which makes one able to stick to a budget and not being caught up with unexpected events and excessive spending.
It doesn't invade routine and allows for freedom of budget and a debt free life(very important).
It also creates room for satisfaction and contentment.
Looking at my life from three years ago, I wasn't able to breathe fine cause I was always worried about the next thing to get and how to get the money to purchase these things but now I tend to focus more on quality than quantity. I've been able to re audit my life more frequently and have also been able to cut down on meaningless expenses. Now my health and mind is in perfect shape as I have learnt to spend less and save more.
That's all from me beautiful people. Till next time, I love you💋.
