Annual Belgrade half marathon during this time of year was organized again yesterday on extremely cold weather conditions. There were 3 races - 21km, 10km and 2.3km, the last one being a family event with donations being sent to humanitarian organization "Child's heart". Cold temperature didn't stop contestants from 42 countries from running a great race and the winning Serbian representative was only 4 seconds behind the national record.
Race was happening on a beautiful route through the heart of Belgrade and surrounding streets, I am sure contestants had enjoyed sightseeing on their way towards the finish line. I've been fascinated by the idea of running a half marathon for a few years now and I recently started training myself.
Although the temperatures around 0 degrees have put a damper on it at the moment. Few days ago I forgot to bring the gloves and a hat with me on a photo walk and had to abandon it quickly and go back home. I can stand anything but the cold when I don't have layers on me. 😄
I wasn't fully following the race from start to finish - after hanging around a bit and photographing the atmosphere I walked through Knez Mihailova street and took more photographs. The vibe of the marathon has spread throughout the city and there were joggers as well in this area which was not part of the route. Public transport was closed in the center so we had to get to our destinations by foot. Loud music cheering the contestants was blasting from roadside stands lead by bands and DJs. You could hear it from far away.
I am sure you can feel the cold just by looking at the photos. :) Winter has come earlier than expected. But it was also a fun event and everyone seemed to have a great time. Photos taken with Fuji X-Pro2 + 35mm F/2 lens.
