Last month there was a yearly marathon that's organized in Belgrade since 1988, this time under the slogan "Friendship in the long run" as it is held on the Family day. Everyone headed over to the city center to support the contestants along the way and at the finish.
Almost seven thousand people appeared at the starting line in one of the biggest sporting events in Serbia. For those interested in shorter distances, three other races are also organized - a half marathon, race for the kids and the "Fun run" (5km) which is the most crowded one.
You could hear the trumpets and drums playing on the streets and, with the traffic moved outside of the center, all the main streets became pedestrian.
In a time where we are so disconnected from each other, it's beautiful to see such event where everyone comes together, supports and cheers the others. The spirit of belonging, of connection and empathy was so strong on the streets that inspired me to train for the next year, even though I was never a long distance runner.
Here are some photos I've captured with my Fuji during and after the race.
Fellow people from Serbia might recognize the two time Olympic champion in Taekwondo here, who came to support her little brother.
