I don't know how old she is or how long she's been around. Only that they call her "Juana la Cubana" and that she's been in the same place in Havana doing the same thing for a long time: telling people's fortunes and giving them advice. I have no doubt that she's already a living symbol of this city, more specifically, of the Cathedral Square.
At some point in 2006 I photographed her when I was still an apprentice photographer. I didn't even have a professional camera back then. Seventeen years later I find her again while doing photoshoots in Old Havana, in the same spot she's been for so many years. Although she apparently can no longer see well, she maintains the same vitality and joy as always, giving everybody advice about life, their future, human values and good manners and bringing out a smile when she shouts very loudly, but also with a grace of her own: Cuba!!!
