Hello friends,
Last week we spend in Tennessee. We drove around looking for some interesting and beautiful places. Anakeesta was one of them. I think it was my favorite, I personally liked it more than Dollywood park. Kids wouldn’t agree with me, but it’s ok.
When we were going up, we used the lift. I was so scared to accidentally drop my youngest kid, that I was holding her very tightly. After this experience we decided to use the cabin on our way back. We had to wait about 15 minutes but it was worth it. Now I’ll share some facts and numbers about this park, that I looked up on the park’s website.
Anakeesta is a theme park located above, and in the heart of, downtown Gatlinburg. This beautiful park offers an authentic Smoky Mountain experience for people of all ages.
Anakeesta literally means “the place of high ground” in the Cherokee language. Anakeesta is situated on a 70-acre mountain 600’ above the city of Gatlinburg.
Gatlinburg is the gateway city to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. As the most visited national park in the United States the area sees up to 12 million visitors every year.
Travellers from around the world come to enjoy the hiking, attractions, restaurants, shopping and entertainment that can be found in the area.
Anakeesta is a unique place, where guests can experience the beauty and adventure of the great outdoors. I couldn’t decide which views of the Smoky Mountains from my photos should I choose, so I uploaded almost all of them.
Located in the heart of Gatlinburg, this mountaintop park is a great place for family time. While kids were busy climbing, crawling, and walking in the treehouses, I was able to take my time to enjoy the fascinating sceneries and take a lot of pictures.
The 14 bridge Treetop Skywalk with over 880′ of connected bridges hanging 50-60′ in the air is something that I suggest you to try! People of all ages here become kids, I could see so many smiling happy faces here, and that made my day.
Make sure you take your visit to AnaVista Tower, the highest point in downtown Gatlinburg. This one of a kind observation tower provides guests with 360⁰ views of the smoky mountains.
There are a few windows in the tower’s floor, that distorts the real height, making it look like if we are even further away from the ground level.
I was told that Smoky Mountains got this name because of the way they get hidden sometimes in the clouds. I don’t think I have any examples here, but try to imagine some clouds on top of the mountains, hiding the mountains’ peaks:-)
These wooden treehouses, and hanging bridges bring me so much memories from my old town. It wasn’t as big as this place but for that time it seemed huge to me. I remember I was afraid to walk on a wooden shaky bridge over the river. It’s gone now, and a modern bridge took place there which doesn’t have any historical value, and has only practical use (people don’t even take photos there much).
I’m glad we experienced this adventure during our trip. We had such a memorable family time here in the Smokies, now I have to choose and print out photos for our family photo album.
If you are interested in visiting this authentic park, you can book the tickets on their official website.
