Hello to all.
Today I will show some pics taken in Adamello Great White War museum. This museum is located in Valcamonica (Italy). It has been built in memory of the soldiers died and lost during World War I in Adamello mountain, and contains a collection of artifacts found on the glacier.
In Italy 'World War I' was fought mainly between Italy and Austria, on high mountains (it is why it is called 'white' war). It has been a position warfare, it has been very difficult to fight in the snow and during in extreme weather condition, in fact this place of Alps are plenty of cave and refugee (sometimes very long excavated inside the peaks), and it must remind us how crazy is a war, every war!
Here the inner side of a large-caliber cannon:
The bullets with its deadly interior:
This kind of cannon taken up to the peak, without engine, by hands!
Here a reconstruction of a wooden refugee on Adamello mountain, with stuff, beds and clothing:
And some typical clothes:
I love this poem by Gian Maria Bonaldi (combattente in Adamello), showing how is out of sense every war:
"... i morti è meglio che non vedano
quel che son capaci di fare i vivi e
la strada storta che sta prendendo il mondo.
E' meglio che non si accorgano nemmeno
che noi siamo diventati così poveri e
tanto miseri che non siamo capaci
di volerci bene.
No, è meglio che i morti
stiano nella neve e nel ghiaccio
e che non sappiano di noi, altrimenti
potrebbero pensare di essere morti invano
ed allora si sentirebbero ancora più soli..."
"... It's better the dead don't see
what the living can do
and the wrong way
the world has taken.
It's better they are not aware
how poor and miserable
we became, being unable
to love each other.
No, it's better the dead remain
under the ice and snow,
knowing nothing about us,
otherwise they could think
to be dead useleddly,
and feel more and more alone..."
(obviously some pictures in this post are not my photographs, copyright by Adamello Great White War Museum)
Here the defusing of a bullet/bomb...
.. and a special way to transport a mule:
A war kit to build barbed wire:
A militar cemetery in Temù town:
And a famous poem by Giuseppe Ungaretti, 'San Martino del Carso':
Let's pray to all soldiers died in this fool war (and in all wars now in the world), let's pray it won't happen again....
