Dancing cheek to cheek (almost)
I recently worked with Lydia and her fella, JC, on a dance themed shoot at my mate's studio. I have worked with Lydia a few time. JC is not a model but a damn fine photographer. I think we were both a little nervous about the shoot.
Dance me to the end of love
Thankfully, Lydia is a dancer and was able to direct JC brilliantly. The obvious affection they have for each other is not only apparent but, in my opinion, added to the emotion in the shots. Lydia pulled some beautiful poses and was able to hold them whilst she directed JC into the best position. We wanted the images backlit, but also used a smoke machine on a couple of the shots.
I wanna dance with somebody
For a non-dancer (and non-model) JC did really well. It really was a bit of a collab, getting the images down. JC (and my mate and studio owner Emrys) and myself, working out what would work for the lighting and Lydia ensuring the poses, not only worked from a dancers point of view, but that they also worked photographically.
When We’re Dancing
A first for me, we ALL reviewed each image as I took them, to make sure the dance pose worked, that I had got the lighting right, expressions were appropriate etc etc. Tbh, I usually check images as I take them, but having us all go through looking for errors or things we didn't like about the shot meant that I deleted shots that didn't stand up straight away and that all images left on my card were images that could be used.
About me:
I can mostly be found shooting models, aviation, motorsports and, when I can, wildlife. But I enjoy most aspects of photography. You can find more of my work on the links below.
