Photography provides me with a sense of calm and peace that I get from exploring, capturing, and revisiting beautiful locations.
The first time I visited the Otway National Park with the intention of creating some images I visited one of the most popular falls, Hopetoun Falls. This waterfall is absolutely beautiful, but I feel like the serenity that a rainforest offers is ruined by being in the company of lots of other people with the same idea as you.
I then started seeing some images pop up on instagram from falls I didn't recognise. After some research I found that there are over 600 falls scattered throughout the Otways with only a handful actually visited by the tourists. Every photographers dream!!
My grand plans to visit them during 2021 were stopped by lockdowns, however I was able to visit two off track falls that proved to be absolutely stunning!
The first one was Glasgow Falls, which required following a faint track for about 20 minutes before taking a sketchy rope to the base. The thrill of seeing a hidden waterfall for the first time can't be beaten!
Here is one of the images I managed to capture there.
The next waterfall I visited was Upper Chapple Falls, which is the first of three falls within a short distance. The next two will be visited once I have purchased a safety beacon as they are going into more rough bush that you could easily get lost in.
My goal for 2022 is to get out to some more off-track falls and hopefully explore some with some of the photographers I have met through some of the communities i'm in.
