This is my entry to the Photography Lovers End of Year Contest. This year has been pretty hectic, as I have just completed year 12, with a big chunk being done from home with our numerous lockdowns, as well as not being able to get out as much as I would have liked.
My favourite images have come from the trips where I have been able to have a break from the lockdowns, and schooling by being out in nature. These images are posted in the order they were taken.
I started the year with a trip down to The Great Ocean road where I was able to spend the day exploring some of the places I hadn't visited before, then capturing sunset over the famous Gibson's Steps. This image is special, as it proves that even if the situation isn't ideal (there was little chance of a nice sunset), it is worth being patient and sticking around just in case! (I have already posted an image from this day here, so I thought I would post the other).
Next is 'Glasgow Falls' which was the first off-track waterfall I ever visited, and it is an amazing experience. Using some rough directions, we trekked through the forrest to a rope going down a muddy bank along side the falls to reach the base. It is so much more rewarding to reach your destination when you have put in the work in preparation! Unfortunately, this was only the first of two off track falls visited this year. Hopefully I will have heaps more to post next year!
This image was kind of unexpected, and has become one of my favourite images taken this year. My mum and brother were feeling housebound like me, so we went down to one of the lesser visited places on the Great Ocean Road, Childer's cove. This was my first time visiting, and I wasn't really planning on taking any photos, more wanting to just be outside. When I saw these rocks, I knew I had to capture them! This is an image I hope to redo with a beautiful sunset soon. This is one of the images that I favour more-so because of the feelings attached to the day of solitude within a world of chaos.
This shot was totally unplanned. I had scoured google earth looking for some little gems, and noticed that there was a beach here. When I arrived I found that the beach wasn't here during winter. (Recently visited and the beach is there now :) ). I had just wanted to go for a day out, and hence I didn't have any plans to stay for sunset. When a photographer replied to my instagram story from here and sent through the forecast, I turned around and headed back, to capture this shot which I am super happy with!
I won't go into too much detail, as I have already posted this image here, but seeing the pink pop up on the lcd screen for the first time is so amazing and has definitely got me wanting to capture the northern lights! I didn't quite have this spot to myself, with a couple who had come down to see the aurora for the first time. Helping them to understand what is required to capture some stunning images next time is definitely rewarding, and I can't wait to see the images they get when the aurora appears again!
Finally, this image I took in the Otways really appeals to me. I convinced my brother to come along to visit a waterfall that had been shut for over a year, to find it was still closed. Determined to get an image I was happy with, we revisited an off-track fall I had been to before, but I decided to try something different, with this shot taken about 50metres downstream. The leading line of the water flow wasn't fully intentional but I feel that it brings the image together, making it one of my favourite from this year!
Thanks for checking out some of my favourite images from this year, there are some extra shots I didn't include as I felt they needed to be apart of a collection when posted, so keep an eye out for them in the new year.
Wishing everyone a merry christmas and a happy and prosperous new year!
