Seagulls look for food in the city's garbage cans. How far away the image of these birds diving into the sea to fish seems...
Instead of fish bones, they find cigarette butts.
The streets still without tourists are occupied by these birds that walk unhindered and without fear.
The only competitors are cats. In general, birds are afraid of cats. That's not the case now when it seems to be the other way around.
Cats have learned to beware of these big, merciless birds!
The seagulls of Sozopol
A hasty decision led me to a Black Sea resort in Bulgaria. A place I like very much, Sozopol.
I live in Romania, where we have a piece of the Black Sea. It was the sea of my youth, the Black Sea in Romania. Because of too much, I got bored and after I had this possibility, I chose the Black Sea in Bulgaria. In many ways more beautiful than the one in Romania. The sea is the same, the places differ, but the climate differs a bit.
Arriving too early in Sozopol, I found the old part of the city almost deserted. That is, devoid of tourists and the effervescence with which they filled the streets.
But I had another vision. The empty streets and the few people living there were all going about their business.
The empty streets were occupied by birds and cats... by seagulls and cats!
Again I saw the same sad thing. Birds are forced to leave their natural home to look for food in the city. Food is thrown by humans in garbage cans.
Here though it doesn't seem so bad, because the sea is a few dozen meters away. Much more serious is that in the city where I live, Bucharest, in Romania, there are many seagulls who feed from about the same places. Serious for nature and its ecosystems is that Bucharest is 200 km from the nearest sea!
This is a sign that the seagulls are moving away from their classic ecosystems, where they lived, fed, and multiplied, i.e. from the seashore to the interior of the continent.
I watched this new situation with sadness...
These photos were taken this spring in Sozopol I wanted to use them in a contest in Liketu, but I didn't post in time.
So I put them now, so they won't remain unused!
