Throughout my life, I have done a lot of traveling, often times not of my own volition 😅 If I had to put a number to it, I have probably lived in over 20 houses. It should go without saying that I have never truly had a home.
Apartments are buildings that I have frequently dwelled in. Apartments tend to be a cheaper option, and having grown up in single parent households, they were the option that we've gone with.
As a child, I found apartments to be magical. So many different people all squished together into one building, each room living their own unique life. The elevator rides, all the way to the top. And, of course, the view that can only be achieved from twenty floors up.
One of the most vivid memories from my childhood was falling asleep on the living room couch of my mom's apartment. She had a huge window looking out onto the city -- literally reached from wall-to-wall. And I have no idea what floor she lived on, but we were high.
When I awoke in the middle of the night, I was greeted by this brilliant orange moon, hanging low in the sky. It was enormous, and absolutely breathtaking... I had never seen anything like it before. It was one of the calmest moments of my life...
As I progressed into my adult years, apartment buildings have continued to be the option for me. In the last 5 years, I have already lived in 3 different buildings! So I wanted to share my collection of photographs that I have captured over the years.
My first apartment building was out west with my ex. We lived in Alberta and were trying to start anew, but it simply wasn't going to work. It was a small building, yet we still lived on the top floor -- the third.
My second apartment was with my husband, when we were still in the dating phase. Again, a lower floor -- the third also! 😄 This apartment holds a lot of special moments for me. It symbolized leaving an abusive relationship, finding the right one, having our first child together...
(In this picture you can almost see the double rainbow! 🌈)
The third, and final building, has been with family. We currently live with my mother-in-law. Thankfully she lives on the 19th floor, so we are blessed with a bit of altitude this time! 🙏 I have managed to capture some amazing scenery here.
(Seeing the city through a rainy window...)
(I adore this one, the natural contrast of a pink sky and blue city)
(This was during Christmastime! 😃 We had decorated the window with Christmas lights and I loved the reflection against the glass)
(I love this one as well, there is something very Law & Order-esque about it)
(This one is actually not a sunset -- it was taken during the 2024 solar eclipse! 😱☀️ I believe this photo was taken around 4 o'clock in the afternoon)
(This photo was just taken tonight. We often see these brilliant scarlet sunsets, but my phone camera is never capable of capturing it 😩 Tonight I adjusted the settings and was finally able to capture the red ♥️)
