In the first days of September a friend from Slavonia, the inland part of Croatia, rented an apartment in Peroj, the seaside village not far from where I live. She spent most of her seven days holiday on the beach, but on the 5th of September 2021, I and two other friends came for a visit ...
... and that visit resulted in a small road trip around the area about 20 - 40 kilometers from Peroj. In this opening photograph, you can see the center of that village, Peroj. The shot was taken on the way to the apartment in which we planned to meet our inland friend. One person in our little group had to buy a pack of cigarettes in the nearby tobacco shop.
While waiting, I noticed this poster that advertised concerts of quite a few old megacelebrities. It looked pretty surreal. I mean, it was difficult to believe that Elton John would come to play the piano on the summer terrace on the beach near Peroj. But then, who knows - I thought. With the world lately being crazy, maybe is possible. AC/DC on a summer evening - hell. why not. It took me some time to realize that those posters were advertising the tribute bands.
Which doesn't diminish the potential fun - factor of those concerts. On many occasions, I had plenty of fun with tribute bands. Especially with some hard rocking ones on biker rallies.
We stopped one more time before reaching the apartment on the outskirts of Peroj because my attention got caught by these pigeons. I liked the very geometric way in which they were set on the rooftop.
The building also looked pretty cool.
When this photograph was taken, we were ready to go. The little dog was traveling with us.
The next stop was in the town called Svetvinchenat, about 20 - 30 kilometers from Peroj. Here, my attention got caught by a group of people in front of an old house on the main square. The scene had a nice documentary feel.
We continued towards the Venetian castle from the 16th century that incorporates some older elements from the fortress built in the 13t century ...
... and while passing by the massive wall ...
... I stopped for a minute to take a look through one of the embrasures.
Some people were enjoying the afternoon inside the castle walls.
Behind the castle, there is a wide, well-maintained lawn that looks like a football field.
It's a great place for small children. Plenty of space and soft grass to safely run around.
I photographed some flowers while walking one of the streets parallel with that lawn. These are some kind of Begonias. Don't know the exact species.
In this shot, you can see the clusters of flowers on the Rhus typhina shrub.
A bit further I came across this interesting doghouse. The roof of the house is small, but the roofing tiles are made for bigger houses, and that combination creates a funny effect. It's a cute house for a small dog.
Here you can see a fine white shirt hung in the car parked by the road. It looked like a ghost of the front seat passenger. That ghost-like appearance caught my attention, so the shirt entered this post.
From here I had a great view of the castle behind the lawn.
Some minutes later we all sat on the terrace of one of the restaurants in that scenic area. As we were drinking our coffee and stuff ...
... a wedding parade was passing not far from there.
On the lawn across the street, the kid that you saw a few pictures before in the post, was still running around ...
... and the wedding guests were slowly walking ...
... in the rhythm of some obscure Croatian and Istrian love songs that I don't like at all 😂but it wasn't my wedding so OK.
I was able to mentally cut out the music and enjoy the rest of the scene.
This chimney was observing the parade from a higher position.
The next and last stop was in the place called Saint Peter in the Woods, a village built around the old church and monastery. You can see those historic buildings in the background of this shot. The fig tree in the foreground ...
... has grown in the window ...
... of the nearby abandoned, roofless building.
It looks like an abandoned part of the monastery, but I'm not sure about that.
Here you can take a look from a different angle and see the lush vegetation that covers the interior and climbs the old walls.
Here you can see the pretty large square in front of the church and monastery.
All this stuff looked a bit out of place here. Like an architecture from a bigger old town teleported in the village surrounded by woods.
I found quite a few beautiful architectural details on the church's front facade.
In this enlargeable shot, you can see more details of this old artwork.
At one point a friend entered the church.
Meanwhile ...
... I was photographing the statues near the entrance.
I'm far from being an expert when it comes to religious stuff, but this character with the keys could be Saint Peter.
The statues represent two different bearded Christian dudes, but today, while preparing the photographs for the post, I started playing in Photoshop and found out that the two are similar enough to make this little dance animation work. 😁
This pigeon ...
... decided to take a rest on the shoulder of the saint situated higher on the facade.
The petrified person and the living bird looked great together.
I'm not sure about the identity of this character. It could be some saint, but it looks a bit like Virgin Mary too. The only thing that seems to be clear is that it's not a Gargoyle.
Soon I followed a friend of mine and entered the church. There I took this long exposure shot in which you can take a look at the church's colorful, baroque interior.
Half an hour later we drove back to Peroj, and much later, after midnight, I was home.
AND THAT'S IT. AS ALWAYS IN THESE POSTS ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK - THE END.
