It was a nice saturday in october, and there was a family-event organised by a customer, in a family theme park in the coastal area of Belgium. Normally this would be a 2 hour drive, give or take. So we didn't leave too early in the morning (we have teenagers, the very concept of "morning" is unknown to them), aiming to be there in time for lunch ("food" is a concept very well known to teenagers).
Unfortunately, that was not taking the Belgian traffic into account, and after a 4,5 hour drive, we arrived there at approximately 2pm. And we still had to eat. Yet, the park was closing at 6pm. So, we decided not to eat (besides some small take-away snacks), and enjoy the rides and the fun afternoon.
In the evening, while waiting in the traffic jam to get off the parking of the park, I jokingly said "here we are again, in a traffic jam. It's not even that long a drive to go to Paris and back than it is to go anywhere in Belgium!".
Little did I realise what I just said would be the start of an even more fun evening!
So, to make a long story short: instead of standing in more traffic jams towards home, we drove out the other way, headed to Paris, where we arrived around 11pm (we had to eat something on the way over there too...).
We enjoyed the lights and everything around the Eiffel tower until they turned of the lights, and then we headed home again, only to arrive at 6am :-)
The kids had a wonderful time, and so did we...
And some nice pictures were taken too (of course). We plan on going back there pretty soon, but minus the traffic jams and amusement parks in Belgium.
