(Eng) Hello photography community, today I want to share with you my adventure to the beautiful Huaypo Lagoon, a lake located in Pisac, in the Sacred Valley. I left very early from the valley, took a bus to Moray, and began a beautiful hike to the lagoon. The first thing you come across are lands cultivated by local farmers, and when you lift your gaze into the distance, you are met with the imposing snow-capped Veronica mountain.
(Esp) Hola comunidad de fotógrafos, hoy vengo a contarles mi aventura a la hermosa laguna de Huaypo, una laguna que se encuentra en Pisac , el valle sagrado, sale muy temprano del Valle tome un bus hasta Moray y emprendí una hermosa caminata hasta la laguna, donde lo primero que encuentras tierras trabajadas por los agricultores locales, y cuando levantas la vista a lo lejos te encuentra con el imponente nevado Veronica.
(Eng) On the way to the lagoon, it's impossible not to come across the WARMICHAS (young women in Quechua, or as we call them in Spanish, mamichas) herding their sheep along the road. They always wear their traditional outfits, including a hat to protect themselves from the blazing sun, as the high altitude makes it feel like the sun is right above us.
(Esp) Por el camino hacia la laguna es imposible no cruzarte con las WARMICHAS ( mujer joven en quechua, o como las llamamos en castellano mamichas) pasteando sus ovejas por la carretera, llevando siempre sus atuendos un sobrero por el sol abrasador ya que la altura hace que parezca que tengamos el sol sobre nosotros.
(Eng) he Warmichas are strong women who have worked hard since they were young. With great endurance and strength, they walk long distances to reach their place of origin.
(Esp) Las Warmichas con mujeres fuertes que desde pequeñas trabajan duro, con una gran resistencia y fuerza que caminan largos caminos para llegar a su lugar de origen.
(Eng)Along the way, you come across amazing local people who, after a hard day's work in the fields, take some time to enjoy a beer or the well-known chicha de jora—a traditional corn-based fermented drink that dates back to Inca times. It’s truly delicious, but a bit deceiving—you might end up drunk if you drink too much! Still, it’s very refreshing.
(Esp) En el camino te encuentras con personas locales espectaculares , los cuales después del duro trabajo en la tierra se dan un tiempo para bebe una cerveza o la conocida chica de jora, un macerado a base de maíz, que viene desde las épocas de los incas, el cual por cierto es delicioso, pero algo engañoso puedes terminar borracho si bebes mucha pero a la vez es muy refrescante .
(Eng) After a long hike, you’re greeted by the intense blue color of the incredible Huaypo Lagoon.
(Esp) Después de una larga caminata te encuentras con el color de azul intenso es la increíble de la laguna de Huaypo.
(Eng) While resting on the shores of the lagoon, I met two young shepherd children. Sometimes, children can’t attend school because they have to help their parents with work—it's a harsh reality faced in the deep regions of Peru. They were incredible siblings who taught me a lot about their way of life and how they begin working and taking on responsibilities from a very young age. But you always see them smiling, and it makes you realize that you don’t need much to be happy.
(Esp) Descansando a las orillas de la laguna me encontré con dos niños pastores, aveces los niños no pueden ir a la escuela por que tienen que ayudar a sus padres con los trabajos, es una dura realidad que se vive en el Peru profundo, eras dos hermanos increíbles, me enseñaron mucho sobre su estilo de vida y como empiezan a trabajar y a tener responsabilidades desde muy pequeños , pero también siempre los vez con una sonrisa y te hace pensar que no se necesita mucho para ser feliz.
(Eng) It’s time for me to head back—before I get run over by a group of wild, unruly sheep!
(Esp)Llega el tiempo de retirarme, antes de ser atropellado por un grupo de ovejas descontroladas.
(Eng) More than just showcasing the lagoon and the apu (mountain in Quechua), I wanted to highlight how incredible Andean culture is. More than mountains and lagoons, it’s about the way of life—and to repeat the moral of the story: you don’t need much to be happy.

(Esp) Mas que mostrar la laguna y el apu (montaña en quechua), quería mostrar lo increíble que es la cultura de los andes, mas que montañas, lagunas, es el estilo de vida y repetir como moraleja que no se necesita mucho para ser feliz.
