Hello everyone 🖐 I hope you are all well 😃
Today I got up early with a much sunnier day. The sun's rays finally appeared and it was a phew sunny day.
I decided to take my camera and get on my way.
Today's location was the Convent of Alpendurada, Matos no Marco de Canaveses, Portugal.
I confess that i had already seen some stories and some images of the place and I thought it was really beautiful. But as here in Portugal they sometimes say, you have to see it to want it, that is, I needed to see with my own eyes how beautiful the building is, and how much there is to discover.
Of course, I didn't embark on this adventure alone, I went with another explorer, as it is an abandoned place full of history.
As you can imagine, an abandoned building always brings a great adrenaline rush, as you never know what to expect and find.
This convent was founded in the 11th century, it is a convent of a Catholic religious order with a monochastic cloister known as Benedictine. This is a religion that regulates social coexistence between people.
After being a convent, it became known as Hotel Convento de Alpendurada.
This place has already hosted large events, such as weddings and parties.
But due to financial problems on the part of the company that operated the Hotel. Since 2021 it has been abandoned.
Even though it is abandoned, it still presents its exquisite structure, despite the gardens being a little neglected.
Considering the entire setting of the imposing Monastery, I imagine what it would have been like before, all the gardens and structures of the time must have been enchanting.
Full of stairs and typical Portuguese period tiles.
The balconies, the structure of the stone walls, were reminiscent of that time of kings and queens in castles.
This convent occupies a huge area, I have no idea how much, because it is gigantic.
It has a huge number of doors and windows.
Some of the windows found were damaged and some of the doors were open, which aroused the curiosity to go in and explore the space and be sure that the space was beautiful and with a lot of history and period accessories.
The gardens were full of beautiful and elegant accessories. Like the lamps and chairs, very differents.
Of course, everything is already quite damaged from being exposed to the weather without maintenance.
For example, rust is visible on this chair.
Throughout the Monastery there were walls with typical tiles, but some were already very deteriorated, it even looked as if someone had forced them open and removed them. Few were left intact.
In the Monastery there was a huge cross with a phenomenal view over the Douro River.
Throughout the entire route I took outside the convent, there was always something typical. In this case a fountain with tiles.
It should be used for people to drink water.
Now completely unused and abandoned.
I confess that it gave me butterflies in my stomach and so much adrenaline that I couldn't leave that place without taking a look at what was inside.
Because I imagined that the outside of the building is so beautiful so what can I say about the inside.
And that view of Rio must have been very interesting, right?
So I'll leave it until tomorrow's post for you to discover and embark with me on this adventure through the abandoned Monastery.
I hope you enjoyed this post of mine 😄
