Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I went back to my photo library and found some older photos from a couple years ago that I forgot we took!
Smoky Mountain Photography
I love finding little nuggets like this! I was looking for some different stuff to post, as most of the posts that I've written of late are about serious topics or just things I am knocking around in my head. That is good but I love to blend it with just appreciating some photography like this, so that I can have a nice variation in the content I am writing and putting out there. It may seem silly but it's a healthy variation of catharsis for me!
We went to the mountains of New Hampshire a couple years ago for a nice little trip. We took 2 weeks of vacation and did a few day trips around the local area and saw some really beautiful places, this being one of them!
I love mountains for sure. There is so much beauty and versatility to be had there! It's got all kinds of wonderful colors, animals and elements to it. It's really one of a kind in terms of beauty and inspiration. This one is no different! We don't usually get thick blankets of fog but there was a considerable amount on this day and it made it absolutely perfect conditions to get some pretty beautiful and dramatic pictures!
The mountains here are a place we go to fairly regularly, as we have friends that live in the area so we visit their place when they are there or when they aren't. It makes for a nice retreat from the rest of life and has a lot of great qualities to it. I know that we certainly enjoy all of the seasons here for different reasons but I think autumn is by far the most beautiful of them all!
There are a few gorges and passes where you can walk or hike around and just take in the miraculous scenery. This one here is one of my favorites because it is so dramatic with the steepness of the mountains on either side. On the right side of you, you've got the gigantic patches of raw granite spreading far and wide, kind of like a scar on the mountainside. It's pretty interesting to look at it and think how many thousands of years ago or hundreds of thousands of years ago these mountains were formed and now they are old and craggy.
I think we also got lucky with these pictures in that we found a range of beautiful colors! Last year when we went to this area, we didn't really see a range of colors it was interesting and sad. I wanted to see the oranges and reds that you see in these great pictures but it was just yellow lol. Oh well, things change from year to year! I'm glad that we got to enjoy the overcast clouds but rain-free day with the beautiful fall colors abound.
We also got to hang out and spend time next to this beautiful mountain lake and small waterfall. Sadly they don't let you fish on the bridge but that's because there are so many people walking about, going up and down the various trails in the area that it's likely a better idea not to let them lol.
This place is actually where we met a Russian couple and they were using a really nice digital camera. We were chatting with them for a little bit trying to figure out the next lens we should buy and what brand. They recommended a similar range to what we've got now, 28-104 I think they said or something along those lines, and a Temur I think the lens brand is. It's a European multipurpose brand and is quite popular among camera enthusiasts. They are a little cheaper but the reviews we were reading on them steered us away from them, at least for now.
We were taking these beautiful shots with a Canon EOS with a Canon 50mm lens. I love the 50mm because it generates such beautiful and crisp pictures, the challenge is that you only have one depth of field! It makes it hard to take some pictures but a lot of them come out quite beautifully like these.
Hopefully you enjoyed them! What one is your favorite?
