Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to laugh that for the first time, I had to reduce the image size from the photos I have been taking!
Supersized Pictures
If there is one thing that I didn't think I would have to do, is that I had to reduce my image size for the first time on PeakD LOL.
I am certainly an amateur photographer, I frame some pictures in my head and pull out my phone or my camera and take some shots to see if anything comes across as acceptable. With all of these pictures, I didn't really experience many issues uploading them to the various front-ends of Hive like PeakD or Ecency until recently!
In some of the pictures that we've been taking, they have gotten to the size that they actually can't upload to PeakD, my preferred front end for Hive! I was shocked for sure but knew there is most likely an upload size limit. For those that don't know, the size limit is 25mb per photo! I don't have many photos that are in that qualification but certainly some of these were. The river photography is one of them that had a picture that was just a little too intense to upload :D
I know that there is a lot going on with some of these pictures, the colors are vibrant and some of them have gone through an "automatic" clean up in the photo editing software that I use called GIMP but damn, they are pretty cool pictures! I don't usually pay attention to the specific information like image size before I try to upload something but after getting a failed upload, I will certainly keep an eye on it!
I know there are things that we all learn as we go along and photographers certainly learn these types of things and for good reason. I don't know how much places like PeakD pay for image compression and storage but I know it's a pretty penny for sure. I don't mind having a limit, as I'm sure if it was higher then it would likely cause some issues with loading and all that.
I think it's kind of like a badge of honor for me. Having taken a picture that required it to be adjusted because the size was too big. I haven't had to worry about that before but with pictures coming from my new DSLR camera we bought last year, and shooting the picture on one of the higher formats, I can certainly appreciate that the pictures will be pretty sizable files at the end of the day. Pictures like the one below are some of my favorites and they border right along the edge of size limits, hovering around 23 and 24 megabytes per picture!
