I wanted to share some finished shots from a recent shoot with UK Terrariums, and a two finished finished commercials, both utilizing stop motion film and live action.
UK Terrariums is a build at home service, that also offer live workshops teaching folk how to design, build and maintain living terrariums.
The product shoot was fairly straightforward, most shots were taking with a cheap Nikon D7200 and the video was filmed in a Blackmagic Cinema Camera EF 2.5.
As far as photography jobs go, it doesn't get much easier than exotic plants. A bit of natural light and a zoom lens and your good to go.
Our surroundings provided lots of opportunity to get creative. I particularly liked this image of a terrarium upon an old oak cabinet.
Now, the films. These would be trickier concepts. Plants are beautiful to look at,and the process of building a Terrarium is slow and mediative, so how can we best demonstrate that process in under 60 seconds?
My first attempt was a step by step stop motion animation build of a terrarium. Quick and simple but clear enough.
For the live action film I thought, why not utilize the stop motion and shrink down an actor (my pal Miles) and put them into the terrarium as an explorer, a sort of Indiana Jones esque character...
I think it works, what do you think?
All the best,
Cotton (Common Folk)
