Dear Hivean friends!
Hope you are well and enjoying your Thursday!
Here in Slovenia we are celebrating this Thursday as Fat Thursday! That means we are eating donuts on this day. We could say, it is just another day at work for cops! Haha, sorry cops I had to tell one joke on your behalf. Well tradition is that the “fattest” person in family or in the office buys donuts for everyone on that day. Well, I guess it is my turn to get my wallet out.
Weekend which follows is a carnival time here and people, especially children transform themselves to all sorts of masks. Most of them are some firefighters, pirates, etc, but some others are bananas or other funny stuff.
Kids are enjoying and donuts are on the menu through Tuesday next week. There are a lot of official carnivals and all different traditions. On Wednesday next week there is a fast and we don’t eat meat that day. Well I often do as I can hardly live whole day without a single meat product.
With that day we also traditionally say goodbye to winter and greet spring time. That tradition is long gone with climate change since almost whole February we had around 10 degrees and no snow at all…
What are your traditions for that time of the year? Do you know this carnival which is called “pust” in our language and I don’t even know the real English translation?
We ae hiding behind masks the following days, but hey these folks didn’t hide at all. When you meet them, you really meet them. I am sure they don’t know “pust” and most likely they don’t know donuts either – sadly.
