A few years back I would have been looking forward to a special dinner, heart shaped goodies, cutesy pink things and sweet treats to eat for Valentine’s Day.
It’s rather interesting how your preferences change with time, circumstances, surroundings, aging, mood and values. Sometimes we don’t desire the same things we did in previous years.
I know that entertainment options outside the home are limited. On top of that I don’t like getting out much because I hate restricted breathing. I rarely get excited about outings because it’s just not the same any more.
I know some ladies that used to pamper themselves regularly by going to the spa, nail and hair salons. I didn’t go to those places often but when I did it was quite a relaxing experience. Some are really sad that their favorite places are shutdown or bummed about all of the new requirements and tasks you have to do just to get pampered now...so they just don’t go.
I think it’s important to get refreshed and take some time out to treat ourselves as often as we can. I am a firm believer if you can’t go out to get it done then diy at home.
I get excited about the littlest things nowadays. Creating my own spa experience at home is all I need for this Valentine’s Day. Being able to sneak away for a couple of hours from all of the “mom” responsibilities is just what I need to recharge.
I follow these steps and do exactly what this sign in my bathroom says.
I pretend it’s just me alone (I can do that since my husband makes sure the kids don’t bother me) and turn up my relaxing music to block out any interference of my peace.
I picked up this birch muscle mineral soak from my favorite health store and it smells incredible. Just the smell alone helps me to relax. Soaking in this calms my nerves and muscles.
The older I get I am realizing the importance of taking better care of my skin and body as a whole.
We get so busy with demands and parenting that we sometimes completely neglect our needs. I always say in order for me to be the best mother I can be I need to take care of myself and make sure I am mentally and physically capable.
Taking time out for a home spa treatment is a great place to start!
Next comes the mani pedi!
Now let me be real for a moment. I’m usually one of those woman that ignores her feet in the Winter. My feet are ALWAYS cold so they stay covered up anyway.
I am vowing to do better and take better care of my feet and keeping my nails groomed year round.
I also got my polish from the health food store since they are less harsh than regular polish.
I clip and file first and then add a base coat. After adding the color I finish off with a top coat.
If anything it feels good seeing my toes shine and looking pretty. My husband likes when I do them too.
It’s not always about looking good for the world but feeling good about yourself should be a priority. I know I function better when I’m feeling confidently satisfied.
If anyone has let themselves go (not caring anymore) because you can’t attend events or get out as much, I encourage you to treat yourself and still get dolled up ever so often.
Finally I go to our coffee corner to brew my favorite coffee.
As the sign reads
Coffee Is My Love Language
it truly is! When my husband brings home new coffee flavors or tools to make our coffee more fun...I fall in love all over again.
Not with my husband but with the coffee. 🤫😂
I didn’t use to be a coffee drinker. I think after our third kid showed up I needed a cup a day. 😅
As I’m relaxing and sipping on my coffee I get to enjoy the smells coming from our diffuser. It also plays relaxing music that puts me in sleep mode.
What a dream! This my people is my ideal Valentine’s Day treat.
I don’t need the candy, the flowers won’t last long, I have plenty of socks and pink cutesy things. Just give me two hours to pamper and take care of my mind and body so I can be a refreshed wife and mom.
