I’ll have to change the title of my photography series in order for it to reflect what I’ll now be doing.
When I first started sharing my journey with you I was only doing decor photography for my cousin’s events she set up. It gradually changed over time and I began photographing people as well.
This photoshoot I am sharing with you today is not an event but it has opened up doors for us to start photographing more frequently and on a professional level.
My good friend whom I spoke of before (Shaunee) gave me this opportunity to give her various shots for multiple uses. She’ll be using these for her business, leisure and other things she had need of them for. I thought it was pretty cool to do a photoshoot where the client would be able to get some good use out of them in different ways.
We took these shots on a golf course and used the setting to our advantage. We used the inside party room, outside deck as well as the actual golf course. I saw the beautiful water out there and knew I wanted to get some shots of her in front of it.
I am really excited about the response I got on these from her family, friends and acquaintances. Through this photoshoot we will possibly be booking three more appointments. One of them could be an opportunity for stepping into retail photography.
Yes, you heard right! The beautiful clothing that Shaunee is wearing came from a boutique. The owner of that boutique loved the photos and is interested in bringing me on as her photographer. 😆
I am really thrilled with the opportunities this passion is bringing for my family. We are in the process of getting things set up to make this family business official.
For the longest I’ve been doing all of my edits and pretty much everything from my phone. I recently was able to get the software I needed in order to work from my laptop and start editing my photos without limits. I am super super excited about that.
We have tons of learning and research to do. I’ll be more focused on learning this software and improving my editing. My husband is taking more of the business side of things and learning the ins and outs of how to run a smooth and successful one.
The fun part is knowing this will be a family effort and our kiddos will be able to learn new skills as well as business etiquette. This will be a wonderful curricular activity for our homeschool. They are actually excited because they will have the opportunity to add to their crypto wallets as they help us with events…they will receive paid incentives for the work they do.
I’m thinking by now you get why I titled this Boss Lady. 😄
She did such a wonderful job nailing these shots with her expression and body language. I call this photo Total Boss lol. It turned out really artsy with the way the wind was blowing her hair and necklace.
When I first looked at the picture I was upset with myself that I didn’t stop snapping to make sure her necklace was straight. I am learning that keeping an eye on wardrobe and hair during the entire shoot is of essence.
Later on I heard from my sister and she pointed out how artful and natural it looked to see her hair and necklace move with the wind. It’s like a statement within itself.
Before a photoshoot I’m always nervously thinking about what positions and poses I will place my subject in. Based on the theme of the photoshoot I am always researching ideas and gathering inspiration.
As I move along with the photoshoot more ideas constantly keep popping in and depending on our surroundings sometimes these visions work and sometimes they don’t. I always take more than enough photos in order to get a nice amount of good ones to work with.
This is one of her main business headshots. The brick setting we had for use inside really went well with the look I wanted to see. You’ll see here in a minute that the whole setting complemented her skin tone as well as the beautiful vibrant colors she was wearing.
It was a really bright and sunny day out so I was glad to get some shots inside to tone down the mood a little.
Here’s another one showing the bricks. The contrast of the burnt orange couch really help bring out her vibrant colors more and helped tie in all of the surrounding colors. Of course my friend's natural beauty helped make my job pretty easy. 😊
This room was full of windows so having that natural light is always the best option in my opinion. I prefer using it over any other type of lighting. However, I do look forward to purchasing a light kit and using it when needed.
Now, let me show you the water view…
It was really beautiful out there. I wanted to get the water for most of our background in these and I think it worked out pretty well.
One of the advantages of taking shots in nature is you will always have a natural background. You just have to position your subject in a way to take full advantage of it.
I have been working on making sure my subject is the main focus so I did defocus the trees and the landscape in the background. It should always be a goal to make sure nothing is taking the highlight or spotlight away from your subject.
This next one is one of my favorites. Who needs a fan when you have the wind to create effects? 😁
I did have to edit out a few fly away hairs but for the most part this photo made itself. Her big and bright beautiful smile went along well with the big waves of her blowing hair. I love that the sun wasn’t directly in her eyes so she could open them up more.
One thing I always look out for is at least one photo I can give my clients in b&w. I have always loved the effect of a b&w photo and think it helps tell a story.
If I change a photo to b&w I do also give my clients the same photo in color as well. You just never know how they will use their photos so I like for them to have both options.
I’ll leave you with the one photo I thought was perfect for this…
I normally prefer to have every part of my subject in one form of lighting. Meaning either they are entirely in the sun or entirely in the shade. I felt this photo worked out having her in both. It kind of gave the photo more of a dramatic effect.
If you’d like to view my beginning work I’ve included all of the posts I’ve shared regarding my journey.
I’ll be in touch as things unfold with our business continuing to keep you in the loop. ❤️
