Living West of the Rocky Mountains makes for some epic sunset photography. We see views like this everyday and still cannot help but snap photos.
Vivid oranges, pinks and purples makes us literally see the world through rose-coloured glasses. When the weather is nice we go for walks almost everyday through the peaceful suburbs.
Some people say suburbs lack soul, they criticise them because there is a lack of urban density, transportation, etc. To us it is like living in a park, with expansive mountain views. There are a number of shops and services within walking distance, there's a bus steps away and train station at the bottom of the hill.
Buildings don't block the sun or mountain views. There's no traffic and asides from the odd forest fire, the air is fresh. We see muskrats, coyotes, rabbits, various birds, ducks and occasionally deer or moose.
Calgary ensures that at least 10% of the land is set aside for parks. There are 8500 hectares of parks and 1000+ kilometers of walking and biking paths throughout the city.
This is a photo I adapted for the background image of my profile. Those are the mountains of Kananaskis Provincial Park. We chose the Westside of the city to see these mountains and to be closer to the tens of thousands of square kilometers of wildlands and National parks AKA Banff.
Everywhere you go you see such views. We were laughing when we were looking at houses because most of the listings included a picture of the home with some ridiculous looking sunset we thought it was photoshopped until we moved here.
Thank you for reading and have a good night.
