2021 has been an interesting year full of challenges but ultimately I feel like for myself it's been a catalyst for good & I appreciate that I managed to get out on a couple of trips between lockdowns & travel restrictions.
I started the year with a trip to the Barrington Tops. Inspired by 's forestscapes, I spent a few days capturing ancient forests and trees along the east coast. That trip created an obsession with forests and this year I've really found mental solace in these spaces.
This trip was a breakthrough for my post-processing as well. For some time, I've been investing in tutorials and working on my post-processing skills and this was the first time I felt like everything clicked and I could actually show in the final image what I originally intended in my mind.
When we were in lockdown I appreciated how close I was to National Parks. These parks became a safe space as I spent all my free time bushwalking & taking it all in. While hiking I'll occasionally listen to music just to spice it up a bit. For the above image it was the Lord of The Rings soundtrack & I feel like it influenced the final image.
This is another image that was captured on one of those lockdown hikes. I wouldn't have spotted this scene if it hadn't been for a peanut butter sandwich and my need to stop & get something to eat.
The biggest photography-related adventure I've had this year is camping in the snow, in the Kosziuscko National Park. Depending on where you are, the cold and snow may not be such a big deal but for someone from Australia who's used to 17 degree days in Winter & 30+ degree days in Summer, this was a challenge.
It ended up being -8c at night which made for some interesting shooting conditions. Snow & ice add such an amazing element to a landscape and being in the middle of nowhere armed with nothing but a camera and my mind running wild was such a good experience for my creativity.
If you've read this far I really appreciate it! I hope you enjoyed the images & my rambling
Here's to 2022 being a healthier, happier & better year for us all!
