Another day, another Gran Turismo 7 build, and another Toyota. Not just any Toyota though, this one is a tiny little hatchback with lots of power. This tiny car is built to be driven, and as Doug DeMuro put it in his video, "The Toyota GR Yaris Is the Coolest Hatchback America Doesn’t Get"
Today I'd like to share with you my custom-built Toyota GR Yaris RZ '20 and its livery design, which I created..
First, a bit of backstory about the Toyota GR Yaris RZ...
Toyota has long been a dominant presence in the World Rally Championships, consistently fighting for the series championship year after year. After building a number of classic rally race cars, the company introduced its newest off-road competition machine in 2021: the GR Yaris.
At first, it may not look that different from the production hatchback, aside from the super wide rear fenders, but under the skin beats the heart of a serious racer. Built on a combination of the TNGA GA-B and GA-C platforms, the extremely lightweight body possesses increased rigidity. Its flowing profile, characterized by the low carbon-fiber roof, optimizes airflow.
Under the hood of the RZ model is the G16E-GTS, a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-3. Boasting the smallest size and lightest weight in its class, this unit produces 200 kW (268.2 HP/370 Nm (272.7 ft-Ib) and comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission that sends power to all four wheels via a newly developed electronically controlled coupling type center differential.
The RZ High-Performance model is equipped with Torsen LSDs for both the front and rear differentials, for maximum traction.
This "First Edition" model, introduced alongside the GR Yaris in January 2020, was offered to those who preordered the car. Among other things, it featured special forged aluminum wheels and was autographed by Toyota "master driver' Morizo, who is in fact Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda.
Specs after mods:
371 hp
363 ft-lb torque
2218 lbs
The final power numbers aren't crazy staggering, but the lightweight of this car allows it to keep up with more powerful cars in its class. This AWD beast is capable of quite a bit on the track. When driving it, I managed to gracefully slide around each and every corner. Within the first race, I had already grown comfortable controlling how the car drives. It's a pleasant treat to witness this thing in action.
For some reason, I wanted to stick with a red/black/white color theme for the livery design. The car is made in Japan, so I also wanted to showcase the heritage aspect of the car. This leads me to combine sex appeal with Japanese. The result is something I think stands out as a dominant design in my collection of liveries that I've created here lately.
The girl licking the apple is my favorite part of the car, but I also really love the geisha on the front fender. I added the blood drip in the background to accentuate the idea of this car dripping in sex appeal. You will also notice samurai, oni, rising sun, vampire teeth, and more Japanese symbolism.
A car with red rims is always just so striking to me. This is especially true when paired with a livery design that is meant to catch attention. The overall result of the car's look is something I'm quite proud of.
If you are proud of something, why not take some photos of it? So that is exactly what I did with these 10 GT7 Scapes images. All were captured inside the game's advanced photo mode suite and I think they deliver in a big way. I You can easily notice the fine details of the car and all of its glory. I decided to stage each shot in various locations across the beautiful country of Japan.
