It had been a minute since I took some self-portrait photos around my apartment. I recently had to set up to take some photos of my fitness progression. I was offered some money in exchange for my testimony and I was of course more than happy to do it.
Since I already had my equipment out and I’m working order, I decided I would also take some regular photos that weren’t focused on my physique.
I had two really bright lights right in front of me. This is the secret to turning an iPhone Pro camera into something that looks professional. Without the proper lighting, these photos would have just turned out like your average cell phone pics. My lights were one of my best investments, I’m lucky to have 4 to work with, although I usually only need two unless I want to add some color with my RGB lights.
One of the most difficult parts of the process is making sure that I’m framed perfectly. I use the back camera, so I can’t check the screen and have to just snap a photo and then go look. I place something on the floor so that I can figure out exactly where I need to stand to be centered.
After that, the only other difficult part of it all is posing. It’s so easy to look awkward in front of a camera. It takes some finesse to look natural. I can’t say that I always know how to pull it off, but I’m happy with how the majority of these photos turned out.
Hope you enjoy getting to see an updated look of this middle-aged dude. These won’t be the last of course, but I am not taking photos of myself every damn day so expect it to be a few weeks or a month before I do more self-portraits.
Thanks for having a look.
