After seeing a cheap coach trip to Cambridge advertised, I decided to book a day out there, I don't do coach trips very often but I really enjoyed this one, the coach was really comfy and thankfully the A1 motorway was clear of accidents for out visit.
Cambridge is about 138 miles from where I live, not too far and a place I've been wanting to visit for years but for some reason I'd never got off there, until now at least.
On my first impression it is a beautiful city, I do love places like this with old buildings, I'd always wanted to wonder around the streets and just explore, I can imagine it looks beautiful with snow on the ground. You do get a true feeling of grandeur when you walk past the world famous colleges such as Kings College, Trinity College etc. What history this place holds.
The above picture may not look like anythng, however the apple tree in the picture is Newton's apple tree, this is the tree that Sir Isaac Newton was sat under when the apple fell on his head in which started his theory on gravity. It's only a small tree though, I was expecting it to be much bigger.
Update: On further research this is not Newton's apple tree as it was sadly blown down in storm eunice in 2017. The tree in the picture is a genetic replica of the tree and was planted below the room where Newton lived in at Trinity College.
I absolutely loved walking around the little narrow streets, with history around every corner, I'd love to see this place in snow, with far less people, it was absolutely packed, in which you can't really tell from the pictures, but you couldn't get a picture without someone being there, the next time I go is going to be the middle of winter and a weekday lol.
Another place I wanted to see was the round church, built in the 1100's another fantastically old building, while I was there I thought I'd have a look inside, sadly it's nothing special inside, and at £3.50 entry fee, I was in and out within 10 minutes, although I do love the exterior, such a gorgeous little building.
One of the other reasons I visited Cambridge was to buy a Raspberry Pi 5 from what I thought was the only Raspberry Pi store in the world.
Anyhow, this morning a friend of mine told me that there is a Raspberry Pi store in Leeds, which is only about 40 mins from where I live lol, so another shop to visit in the future lol.
I also purchased some other goodies, a PSU, Active Cooler and an official case, I loved it in that shop, I think this thing I have about Raspberry Pi computers stems back to my childhood as I my first computer was a ZX Spectrum 48k, that, like the Pi was all done in Cambridge, so it was a but of an homage visiting there.
We had a little bit more of a wonder around and waited for our coach to get home.
Contemplating on the trip, we really enjoyed it, although there were a few things that we didn't like, mainly ignorant people just walking into you instead of around you and using manners, although people who we did speak to especially people from Cambridge were really friendly, so maybe it was a tourist thing, I don't know. I'm definitely going to go back but not on a weekend.
The other thing we noticed that just about everywhere we went and needed the toilet, they wasn't the cleanest toilets at all, some were downright disgusting, even the toilets in a well known establishment ending with the name Valerie wasn't in the best of states, again, maybe a tourist thing I don't know, although the valerie place, the service was great, the food and drink was rather substandard.
The next time I visit, I will certainly try different places, and hopefully do more exploring and take my camera rather than just use my phone for the pictures.
I hope you've enjoyed this post and hope it hasn't put you off visiting this beautiful city.
