I thought I'd go somewhere a little different this week and head out to Gainsborough Old Hall, the weather wasn't very good and I didn't want to get drenched in the rain. I'd been to the hall before, a few years ago, so some of the exterior shots are from back then.
My mate Gaz posing on the above shot, I call it "Old Man Resting" lol.
The weather was absolutely terrible, hence one of the reasons why I decided to go to the old hall, as I knew this was indoors, also, with my English Heritage membership, I didn't have to pay to get in as my membership allowed me entry.
After you walk in through the reception, the large banquet hall is the first stop, there had been some sort of party before I got there, so there were clothes piled up on one end and a couple of women cleaning the room up. Sadly, didn't make for the best shot. But it's a massive building and very surprising how big it is.
The light is quite low, so some of the shots I had to do a bit of HDR on them, thankfully with the A7iii, it's great for pulling out those shadows (yes I forgot my tripod lol).
The entrance to the kitchen just through the banquet hall.
The kitchen, to me, is the most spectacular room there, it's massive, but as you look up, it's really high, especially when you look in to the dovecot at in the roof, it makes you wonder how they built something like this 500 years ago, it was also an excuse to get my Samyang 14mm lens on the camera.
I also loved this little room, just off from the kitchen, although I didn't know the had smoke detectors 500 years ago lol.
Wondering around the house a little further, there's rooms galore.
The history this place has is fantastic, and it's great to see how the other half lived way back when. I'm not sure what the wooden thing is, but it certainly is very very old.
I think if I owned the building, I'd probably live in this room, but which would be the best wall for the tv?
The bed is again, very old, but short too, I imagine the average height of someone back then was about 5 foot 5 or something, the bed is certainly not built to todays standards.
Anyone for dinner?
I really do love these old rooms, the workmanship in them and throughout the house is stunning, and certainly a place I want to go back to.
Thanks fully Gainsborough Old Hall isn't too far from me, and it's also on the way to the seaside, in which I had two minds whether to head out that way. But as I started feeling a bit ill for some reason, I headed back home.
Another great and easy to find place if you are in the area.
I really hope you've liked this post, see you in the next one.
All the best :-)
