Seeing as I have a week off work as a holiday, I'm trying to make the most of my time off and go on a few day trips.
My first trip was to a place called Wharram Percy, a village built around the 9th or 10th century where the church still stands.
I've been wanting to visit here for quite a while, just to see the church, although there are lots more there, remains/foundations of old buildings there too, which I didn't really explore as I'd forgot my water and was really dehydrated.
The car park is situated 3/4 of a mile down an ancient path that has been used from around 50BC or even longer. There is a charge to park, although English Heritage members park for free, as long as you have their badge in your car window.
It is such a beautiful walk down the hill, abundant in wildlife, the sound of the birds singing, butterflies flying in front of you etc, it was a lovely walk, but can get steep in places, so not suitable for anyone in a wheel chair or even push chairs and prams etc, to be honest, I only just got through the gates with my camera bag.
Looking down the valley, I can't get over just how green everything is.
As you can see part of the church tower has fallen down due to it's age, this fell down in recent history as pictures from the 1950s show the tower intact.

On the way back, there is this beautiful church that sits on the top of a hill, it looks lovely from the road, I have been up to it in the past but I'd lost those old pictures, so I thought I'd try again today, sadly, they were doing some landscaping so couldn't get a shot without anyone in, so instead I took the drone up and got a few shots from there, the perfect shot of this church still eludes me, I think I really need to use my 150-600mm lens from the road, however, the issue is finding somewhere close to park.
I really hope you've enjoyed this post of a bit of Yorkshire history, the sun was bright, I was gonna go to Whitby, but the wind was getting up too, so the shot I wanted I don't think I would have got it, I'll probably end up there at some point this week (or next lol).
Anyhow, thank you ever so much for reading.
All the best :-)
