Manyar is a type of grain-eating or granivorous bird that likes open habitats such as grasslands , forest edges , swamps and rice fields . Breeding season starts from April to October. A male can mate with more than one female. The success of a male in marrying a female depends on the "perfection" of the nest he builds. Female birds attracted to a particular male will investigate the male's nest carefully, and if the female is pleased, mating can occur.
In Indonesia , there are various types of weavers belonging to the Ploceus clan , members of the Ploceidae tribe . There are four types of weaver in Southeast Asia and three of them can be found in Indonesia, namely tempua ( Ploceus philippinus ), crested weaver ( Ploceus manyar ), and gold weaver ( Ploceus hypoxanthus ).
Manyar nests are very unique in shape. The nest is one of the most complex, in English it is called "weaver bird" meaning weave bird. Some types of nests are even equipped with "trick doors" to trick predators. The door was clearly gaping, while the real door was hidden. Predators who try to enter the trick's door will find a dead end, not connected to the cavity where the eggs or chicks are located.
