Moving right along
Today marks day 17 of my Granddaddy Purple flowering. This strain has a 60 day flowering period, so we are still in the very beginning stages. I started flowering this one August 1st, so it won't be ready until the beginning of October.
I ended up removing the top layer of the netting a few days ago because it didn't look like she is trying to stretch upwards like I thought she would.
She has branches just a few inches above the bottom layer of netting, so there is no need for that top layer of netting at the moment. I will be keeping an eye on it to see if she does start stretching, but I don't think that I will need it.
The main reason for the top layer of net would be so that her branches could support the weight of the buds, but I don't think that she will need much support because she has some thick branches.
The bottom layer of netting will help reduce the load on the plant itself, but judging by the massive stalk she has, I think she will be able to handle most of the weight on her own.
Off the stalk, she has 8 main branches that are extremely thick and strong. I am really a big fan of bending branches down and massaging them when they are new. Doing this breaks up the tissues inside of the branch and forces the plant to repair itself constantly and in turn, it creates some very strong branches.
The buds are beginning to take shape and with almost 45 days of flower left, I have a feeling that these are going to get pretty massive. I would love to have a tent full of corndog sized colas so it will be interesting to see what she does.
The last GDP harvest I had was in December of 2022 and I have been using GDP consistently since then and probably still have about 3 ounces of cured bud from it. This is by far my favorite strain and it is my go to strain to end the day and prepare for bed.
This strain has some amazing pain relieving effect and it is also great for practicing yoga or meditation. If you consume too much at once, you will need to be ready for a flood of emotions that bubble up as well.
This strain is a great one for PTSD and processing trauma. Whenever this happens, we have started to call it Grandaddy Processing because you may end going on a rollercoaster of repressed emotions that need to come out. The good thing is that you always feel better after getting those emotions out.
I am excited to have a new supply of fresh GDP and these next 45 days are going to be pretty cool to see how well she does.
