At the start of the summer, my wife and I planted a bunch of wildflower seeds in our front yard. The seed pack was a bunch of random wildflowers, so we weren't sure what they would end up looking like.
Over the last couple weeks, the flowers have all begun to bloom and they are thriving. We got sick of having just a plain old yard, and decided that we wanted to let our front yard be a sanctuary for bees and butterflies.
It worked and now a large part of our yard is flowering and full of life. I don't see the purpose of having a perfectly manicured yard full of grass that is devoid of life. It is so cool to see so many colors in our yard and see that bees are visiting the yard and pollinating everything. We are hoping to plant some trumpet vines for hummingbirds, but that will most likely have to wait until next year because we will need some trellis for the plants to crawl up.
I can't wait to see how all our flowers are going to look as time goes by and more and more buds start to bloom.
