Gotta get that practice in
Our last evening that we were in Cabo, we noticed that the resort was setting up some chairs and stuff in what looked to be for a wedding. So naturally, I made sure that I had my camera ready for when this thing started.
I have never photographed a wedding before and I have never accepted the job of doing so because I wanted to get some experience doing it before I was in charge of capturing someone's special day. So what better way to learn than to just do it. I wasn't hired or anything by them and I never even spoke a word to them. I just started clicking away during their ceremony, which only lasted about 20 minutes.
Now if I were actually hired to shoot this wedding, I would have gotten quite a bit closer to everything and had multiple cameras with multiple lenses, but I just had my 100mm f/2.8, which is an amazing portrait lens, and allowed me to get pretty close without getting in the way of the photographers that they had hired.
One thing I noticed while taking these pictures was that this is a perfect place for wedding. The ocean in the background was such an amazing backdrop.
The whole ceremony mainly consisted of the priest giving a short speech, followed by the bride and groom exchanging their vows.
Then they presented each other with the rings that would bond them together and signify their love.
I couldn't hear any of their vows or anything, but I am sure they were pretty good. If I was up there getting married, I would probably be distracted by the vendors on the beach and everyone in the resort watching the wedding.
When they kissed for the first time, everyone on the resort started cheering for them. It was pretty cool to be a part of this even though we weren't really invited to.
One of the coolest things was this dude playing the harp for the wedding music.
I think I am going to have a shoot a few of these incognito weddings before I decide to start charging people for it. I think the fact that this wedding was in paradise made it a bit easier to make the photos look good. The whole location for this wedding was perfect. I wouldn't mind going back here for when either of my kids get married so I can shoot their weddings.
