During the Golden Week Holidays in Japan, my family and some friends went camping at a nearby spot. It was the first time my kids went camping and I am happy to say they actually enjoyed it. I think as boys on their way to becoming men, camping/outdoor/ survival skills are necessary in this uncertain world. Though camping these days is more of a luxury activity, there are still many skills they can learn.
On this their first time camping, I don'T think I taught them anything directly, but just by observing the adults around, I think they got a good introduction. Another thing is, camping was not a part of my lifestyle back in Jamaica. It wasn't popular at all so even a simple task of pitching a tent is still a little struggle for me. But for the boys, that wont be the case.
On the photography side of things, I was really curious about taking shots in the dark as it is something I don't do often, especially around firelight. In the picture below, I like how the light shines and highlights Kamar's face. Though many of the shots didn't come out well, I am getting to understand my camera more. I kinda also like the blurred effect.
The kids at the camp, all boys, spent most of their time keeping the fire burning by throwing leaves, wood, pine cones and using the fire blow pipe which was their favorite. We had two grills on site, a light weight simple grill and a mid weight barrel. They both served us well through the day and night. The simple grill belonged to "salt Bae below 😄.
Of course these pics below are my favorite. You would think they were gathering for the fire but actually they were just gathering wood and playing on the log. But that is fine as it kept them occupied and entertained which gave us more time to grill and chill.
All in all it was a great time camping and I am sure we will be at it again soon. I only wish I took more photos but there wasn't much time for that. I hope you enjoy the photos and before you go, tell me something, have you been camping recently?
