Hoi An Ancient Town is an old town in central Vietnam that appeared at the end of the 16th century. Thanks to favorable geographical and climatic factors, Hoi An was once a busy international trading port, and it was used to be a meeting place for Japanese and Chinese merchant ships. That has created the diversity and uniqueness of the culture, architecture and cuisine of this place. And to this day, it is also a favorite destination of not only domestic but also international tourists. Every year, it attracts millions of tourists. According to statistics of Quang Nam Department of Culture and Tourism, in 2019, Hoi An welcomed nearly 8 million tourists.
On the good weather days before the Covid pandemic, I have been always overwhelmed with the crowd and bustling activities of this place every time I come here. Even though Hoi An is just a small old town, I always find new activities, new destinations, new perspectives and new dishes during my visits. That shows you how bustling it is, right? Hoi An is my favorite destination because I love taking pictures and it always gives me endless inspiration. Today, I visit it again after a long lockdown. And this time, it gave me a completely different perspective.
This is the rainy season in central Vietnam, and Hoi An is also affected. The water level of the legendary Hoai River rose and flooded the streets. Traffic on many roads was cut off. It was really difficult for people to move around. Most of the shops were closed because of the rain and the pandemic, which made Hoi An strangely deserted and peaceful. This is my first time seeing Hoi An like this. Take a look at my photos of the flood season in Hoi An Ancient Town. Hope you like them.
