This was Naila's 15th birthday party. Her family is of Lebanese origin, so the celebration was filled with Lebanese music and a grand feast, as is customary in their culture. As a Latin American, I found the cultural blend fascinating since we share some traditions, but there were also many unique differences.
Esta fue la fiesta de 15 años de Naila. Su familia es de origen libanés, así que la celebración estuvo llena de música libanesa y un gran banquete, como es costumbre en su cultura. Como latino, me pareció fascinante el cruce cultural, ya que compartimos algunas tradiciones, pero también experimentamos muchas diferencias.
Most of the 15-year-olds were Venezuelan, so connecting with Lebanese music felt unfamiliar to them. However, the adults, who have a stronger connection to their heritage, thoroughly enjoyed the music and the atmosphere.
La mayoría de los invitados jóvenes eran venezolanos, por lo que conectar con la música libanesa fue algo inusual para ellos. Sin embargo, los adultos, que tienen una conexión más cercana con sus raíces, disfrutaron enormemente la música y la atmósfera.
The cultural blend created unique moments. The first dance, for example, wasn’t the typical Venezuelan quinceañera dance—there was no "shoe ceremony," and the way the adults embraced their roots was distinct but beautiful. This celebration was a perfect fusion of traditions, leaving behind unforgettable memories.
El cruce cultural nos regaló momentos únicos. El primer baile, por ejemplo, no fue el típico de una quinceañera venezolana, no hubo la tradicional "puesta de zapatillas", y la manera en que los adultos se relacionan con sus raíces es diferente, pero enriquecedora. Esta fiesta fue una hermosa mezcla de tradiciones que dejó recuerdos especiales.
