Johan is a great friend that life and destiny have brought into my life. I met him at my daughters' school during a Father's Day event, where we were asked to meet and share with other parents. For some reason, we exchanged a few words and quickly realized we had many things in common: we are both photographers, we love the geek world, we’re passionate about Dungeons & Dragons, we enjoy illustration, we share similar musical tastes, and we even play instruments. It felt like we were meant to meet, and so we did.
Johan es un gran amigo que la vida y el destino me han traído. Lo conocí en el colegio de mis hijas, durante un Día del Padre, cuando nos tocó compartir y conocer a otros padres. Por alguna razón, intercambiamos algunas palabras y rápidamente nos dimos cuenta de que teníamos muchas cosas en común: ambos somos fotógrafos, nos gusta el mundo geek, somos apasionados por Dungeons & Dragons, nos encanta la ilustración, compartimos gustos musicales similares e incluso tocamos instrumentos. Fue como si estuviéramos destinados a conocernos, y así fue.
Johan has had a positive impact on my life and my family's, and I like to think it works both ways. One day, while talking, I mentioned that I wanted to buy a guitar but was waiting for the right opportunity since many things in my life have come to me through patience, whether buying or receiving them. I wasn’t desperate because I didn’t have the money. Shortly after, Johan told me he had a surprise but didn’t reveal what it was to avoid ruining it.
Johan ha tenido un impacto positivo en mi vida y en la de mi familia, y me gusta pensar que esto es recíproco. Un día, hablando con él, le comenté que quería comprar una guitarra, pero que estaba esperando a que llegara a mí en el momento adecuado, ya que muchas de las cosas que tengo han llegado porque estuve atento a las oportunidades, ya fuera comprándolas o recibiéndolas. No estaba desesperado porque no tenía el dinero. Poco tiempo después, Johan me dijo que tenía una sorpresa para mí, pero no quiso revelar qué era para no arruinarla.
One day, when we met at the school’s exit, he handed me a guitar. I was shocked because I never imagined he would give me something like that. I thought it would be a more trivial object, but no, it was exactly what I wanted—a guitar. What amazed me most was that, despite not knowing each other for that long, he had that gesture for me.
Un día, al coincidir a la salida del colegio de nuestros hijos, me entregó una guitarra. Quedé muy sorprendido porque jamás pensé que me regalaría algo así. Creí que sería un objeto más intrascendente, pero no, era justo lo que quería, una guitarra. Lo que más me sorprendió fue que, aunque no nos conocíamos desde hacía tanto, tuvo ese gesto conmigo.
Johan wrote a novel called Roboarepa, a story of adventure and action where the main character is, yes, an arepa. He found a contact to publish it, and they asked for an updated photo to promote it. He asked for my help, and since I love portrait photography, I took the photos and edited them as best I could. He was very grateful, and I was grateful for spending that afternoon learning all the details about his novel.
Johan escribió una novela llamada Roboarepa, una historia de aventura y acción donde el protagonista es, sí, una arepa. Consiguió un contacto para publicarla y le pidieron una fotografía actual para promocionarla. Me pidió ayuda y, como me encanta la fotografía de retrato, le hice las fotos y las edité lo mejor que pude. Él quedó muy agradecido, y yo agradecido por compartir esa tarde y enterarme de todos los detalles sobre su novela.
Johan is a friend I deeply value. He’s one of those friendships I never would’ve imagined forming in the place where we met, and I’m thankful to the universe for this almost miraculous coincidence.
Johan es un amigo que valoro muchísimo. Es de esas amistades que jamás hubiera imaginado que se darían en el lugar donde nos conocimos, y agradezco al universo por esta casi milagrosa casualidad.
