Nature is full of surprises, both big and small. Sometimes, it's the teeny weeny creatures that get your attention like this little bank vole that has been living in a stone wall. After several attempts of trying to get a photograph of the elusive little mite, we finally managed it today.
The stone wall is next to a wooded area, providing the perfect home. Passers-by will place bird food on the wall so the bank vole will help itself to the food as well. Reading up about them it also states they like fruit and nuts, so I might drop some off the next time I go up. S/he's been living here for some time and has featured a lot on photography pages on Facebook. I'm surprised it's not got its own page!
It's the first time I've seen a wren on the wall as well. Perhaps word has got out that there's a constant stream of food about!
The usual visitors came as well, a coal tit and a blue tit. If you put bird seed down, they will stand there and eat it. Unfortunately, if it's suet pellets, they tend to fly down, pick it up, and then bugger off, leaving you little time to take photos. Patience is a virtue, so they say.
