At the beginning of the week, we took a trip to Bempton in Bridlington to see a colony of gannets along the cliff tops. These beautiful birds are large in size with a striking white plumage, black wingtips, and yellow heads. As we stood on the top of the cliffs overlooking the North Sea, we could see a lot in flight.
We watched them plunge into the sea to catch their prey.
They nest in large colonies on coastal cliffs and rocky outcrops. We were lucky enough to see the colony as they tended to their nests, courted their mates, and cared for their young.
One of the most memorable moments of the trip was seeing the fluffy white chicks in their nests.
I wasn't sure why one of the gannets appeared to have blue feathers. It looked like blue dye. Perhaps someone does it to track and record the birds' whereabouts. Who knows??
Bempton Cliffs was the perfect place for bird watchers and nature lovers alike. The views over the cliffs were a stunning place to view the amazing sea birds. It was well worth the trip.
