We visited Bow Wood, which is fairly local to us, but it's somewhere where we've never been before. The wood is mainly filled with oak and birch trees. It is also full of bluebells.
We parked up across the road and entered the wood. We decided to follow the footpath to the top. The bluebells were everywhere and the sweet, fragrant smell was quite potent.
The sun came out and it became quite warm, especially when walking uphill.
It looked as though there had been a swing on the branches of the tree at some point. We think the birds had picked at the rope because it provides good nest building material.
I'm not sure what had happened to the tree for it to fall over. It's still living, and apparently
has been like this for years. After a quick breather, we retraced our steps back down the footpath and took a different path to the left.
The ground was still a bit brown on this side of the wood but there was a lovely view over the other side of the road.
The green-veined white butterfly seemed to be basking in the sun. The females have two black spots in the middle of their wings.
As well as the bluebells, there were some lovely delicate white flowers called stitchwort.
At the end of the footpath it got quite muddy so we had to go back. Overall, it was a really nice first visit and such a bonus seeing so many bluebells.
