Hamad International Airport in Doha has recently expanded. the main new attraction is the amazing garden area that almost makes you forget you have a plane to catch. i took some shots there that i thought would turn out great but after taking a closer look i see that i didn't do well with the complex lighting there. if i can edit them satisfactorily i will post them.
meanwhile this astonishing airport has plenty of other aspects to focus on.
as expected the high-end shopping areas are exceptionally tastefully designed
this wall is constructed with racks of clear glass tubes
with elements of art and design, both huge and small at every turn
and the place is spotless
the colorful airport is on three levels and almost everywhere there are views up or down or both, giving the place the feeling of being open, spacious and airy.
but it is so prodigious and complex it is easy to lose your sense of direction. there is no lack of signage
and most are helpful. the new expansion includes an on-site hotel called the orchard. i wonder if this peculiar board was mounted on purpose by somebody with a keen sense of humor as well as an understanding of just how confusing the place can be.
just a quick stop in here and
it's time to go find our gate. here at the edge of the garden you can see what i mean about the lighting. with my basic editing tools i haven't managed to make this look right
looking down at a gate here the colors were off but it looks okay in black and white
even at the gates there are works of art on the walls. it was a pleasure to have a few hours in transit through this astounding airport
