i really like the look of old weathered wooden boards. earlier this year we came upon a shed that had never been painted or treated by traditional ways of preserving the boards. leaving them untreated over time gives them a lovely silvery patina and a very coarse texture. since the shed is very airy the boards dry quickly and are therefore actually quite rot resistant and can last many years.
i didn't have my camera with me so i took these with my cat s42 cell phone
the ridges here are the harder wood formed in the winter season of the live tree. from one ridge to the next represents one year's growth or annual ring. the wider softer part between results from the more rapid growth in the warmer season. the difference in depth results from the summer growth containing more moisture so after many years of the board drying out, those areas have more shrinkage and decay faster.
there was an opening between a couple of boards through which i could barely slide my camera in to get an interior shot
