As you probably know, I go to a lot of fairs organized here, there, everywhere I go. It's fun way to see what's new and find yourself something unique, something useful you didn't have. It's also a way to realize you need something, even though you had no idea it exists.
Ok, jokes aside, I love fairs that offer limited series, handmade and nice things. Kitschy products and cheap garbage has no place at these markets, that's why I love to attend almost each event if I can.
Each year, there's an event organized in Marosvásárhely (Targu Mures), called Forgatag in Hungarian, which translates to Whirlwind in English.
The Vásárhelyi Forgatag also wants to be a cultural parade of Transylvanian Hungarians. It is an excellent opportunity to present the city's Hungarian values and introduce them to the majority of the population. source
Long story short, it's a cultural event that presents the city's Hungarian values but it's open to everyone, without restriction. Today I'd like to give you a tour of the event, take you to the fair and show you how many cool things you can buy. Next time I'm going to show you how much fun kids had the day I visited the event and what kind of cool things organizers came up with this year to attract the youngest category.
These hand painted ceramics caught my eye right away as you don't see such products on every corner.
Look at these beauties. I've seen similar products on the internet, but never in real life. Till now. Fair warning, these items are not cheap. A teapot costs 44€, a ceramic box with top costs 36€ and a coffee mug 20€. I love them, but did not buy any.
Another interesting corner that leaves you with some unfulfilled desires. I took the photo at the fair, then came home and had a derailed look at the products displayed. The magnets featuring animals are very cool, 5€ each. My fridge is getting filled with magnets and these ceramic magnets are heavy as well, so if you don't have a safe place for them, better not buy any. I got a ceramic magnet with the Colosseum from Rome recently, so I skipped buying for now. However, when I saw those sets with the pendant and earrings, I almost went back to buy them. Love the red on, but decided not to go back after all.
This year, when giving out permits for the fair, organizers focused on echo friendly products, recycling projects and those that are working towards stopping waste. Paper bags were handed out to those sellers who checked the boxes and they got the green dot.
These are concrete pots for flowers, very cool ones. As you know, most of the pots are made of plastic, are very cheap and easy to handle, but on the flip side, those don't last for long and are not recyclable. These concrete pots look great, last a lot but are not cheap. Truth to be told, you only have to buy them once as they don't break so easily, so these would be a long term investment. I wasn't ready to carry them with me, but next time I may buy some. Love the pastel colors. Placing them on my list for next time. It's time to contribute to going green.
Another cool project was this one. Puppets for kids. I'm not sure if these are called puppets though. These can be a lot of fun as you can teach your kids to interact with each other, create short plays, improvise, which helps in their development. These are washable too, so when time comes, you can just throw them into the washing machine and clean them.
Wooden products always have my appreciation and you don't have to cut down the forest. All you have to do is team up with those who are making furniture or musical instruments or working with wood. No matter how well you work, there's always waste and that waste can be used to create different objects, like these for example. The vendor got the green dot as well.
Which one would you like from here?
Look at those chopping boards. Those are not the standard ones, each piece has it's own beauty and form, which makes them unique. I'd love some in my kitchen. Too bad I already have more than I need. The toys in the corner are also remarkable. Simple, elegant, healthy and durable.
This vendor had a lot of cool stuff. All kinds of well wishes, blessings, funny sayings on wood. These products can also be created using waste material.
This is another cool project that I love. The lady is creating reusable kitchen consumables, like canvas napkins, sandwich bags, lunch bags, bread bags, napkins, shopping bags and so on. The project is called Back To ZeroWaste. I love it. She also got the green dot. These are items I can make at home, since I have a sewing machine and kind of know how to use it as well. It should be great to initiate a project on Hive as well, so maybe you'll see more about this soon. I think if we work together, we can achieve more, worldwide. Hive is powerful.
This was the market tour for today. I hope you were able to find something you liked. let me know in the comment and also, I'd like to know if there are similar fairs where you live.
