Holidays are coming and to me, it seems like everything is closing, which is going to happen eventually. Christmas means 2 days off, then New Year, plus the weekends, so I'm doing everything I can to visit the new exhibitions before the close.
Today I went to visit a temporary art exhibition organized in the hall of a hotel. It's a very unusual location, that is not used for such purposes, but I had to realize it's very good, if I don't count the background, which is made of wood and the architects did definitely not have in mind art exhibitions when the plans were made.
The exhibition was organized by the association of amateur artists, the topic was "Winter tale" and had around 45 artists invited to exhibit. These are usually different as amateurs offer you a different experience. This doesn't mean it's less important or less good. It's just different, but you'll see it with your eyes if you bear with me.
This was the first painting I saw, a watercolor featuring two happy kids after finishing making a snowman. Kind of a reminder of my childhood and another reminder that times are changing, kids these days don't know this feeling, which is really sad. I had a closer look and could see that the artist first made a drawing, then came the watercolor. Usually the drawing, if there's one, is not visible. I'm lacking the experience to know which one is the right way, if there's a right way. Unfortunately it was under a glass, so this was the best I could do. I can see this painting in a children's room or in a kindergarten. Would be a nice addition.
This is where things started to get interesting for me. People judge artworks from different perspective, taking into consideration different criteria. How famous the artist is, is one of them, and sometimes the most important and most of the times it overwrites the beauty, or lack of beauty. Knowing the artist is not well known, or not known at all makes most of the artworks made by amateurs worth less, but not for me.
When I go to these exhibitions, I am only looking at the artwork and judging it based on the feelings that it gives me. If I like it, I don't care about who created it, if it's famous or not. At this point of my life, I don't buy artworks as store of value.
This is the reason why I can enjoy such works as this one. I loved the soft, pastel colors. IT was an excellent color use.
Each painting had a price attached at the side of the frame, so you could decide if you'd wanted to spend the money required to buy one.
This was a lovely one, even though it didn't have a frame. The appropriate frame can add a lot to its value. However, not having a frame gives you the freedom to choose it, which is a huge advantage. I love the silver grey dominating and the orange sky in the back adding more light to it.

This could also be an illustration for a story for kids.
This was a nice painting, floral abstract, if there's such thing at all, but it was oil on canvas and the light worked against me, unfortunately.
A winter scene that makes you want to be there. It would be a travel back in time though. Look at the locomotive. It is from the steam locomotive era. Would you want to travel back to those times? I would but only if I get a promise that I can come back :))
This looks simple, maybe very simple, but I love it. It's for children's book and it motivates me to start drawing again (just need some time).
This was another one I loved. I'm slowly becoming a fan of these rough, thick brushstrokes. What i also love here is the colors. Perfect choice I'd say as those shades of blue go very well with the orange.
A colorful abstract, that could easily be the water of the sea or the ocean.
This one won my heart. I love it. I love the colors, the geometrical forms, I mean the houses made of straight lines, the fact that the bottom and the top is blurry, to highlight the houses. I'd be happy to have it on my wall and there's still time to buy it. Maybe I'll send a letter to Santa, confess that I've been good all year ... 😆
