Last night I managed to persuade a model to accompany me in to an abandoned building in the middle of nowhere in the dark.
We visited Loxley and the abandoned refractories factory, a place used to make products for Sheffield's steel industry. The whole site is derelict and easily accessible being only a short hop over a footbridge to get in.
I promised Desne that this time we wouldn't be wading through knee high water so we visited the other side of the site which whilst dry was much grimier. It's not the cleanest of places and you have to watch where you place your camera gear on the floor.
We decided to try a few different locations I knew of around the site and Desne wanted to try a whole range of outfits she'd brought along in an enormous suit case.
Shades in the dark
It's normal practice to process the images captured by removing skin blemishes, cropping or any kind of editing you can think of. If you look very closely you can see the numbers, "69" tattooed on her left hand. The next time we shoot I really need to ask her the story behind that tattoo!!
MWA - Model with Attitude
Desne can only be described as very "northern". She comes from Yorkshire in the north of England and this photo just about sums up Desne to a tee:
Fave
I often come back from a shoot, get them on a computer to process the hundreds of images and arrive at a favourite. This is probably it.
In the frame
For me when shooting models, it's as important as the posing and the lighting to get the background or setting right. This enclosure made a great frame and Desne was quite adept at balancing on the slim ledge.
Legs
Desne is still quite new to modelling and I'm not sure she appreciates what a great pair of legs she has! The next shoot will hopefully feature the legs again!
Diaphanous
This photoshoot was a hastily arranged Plan B where Plan A was supposed to be a photoshoot in a 10,000 litre water tank. With the event cancelled due to a failed heater, Desne had a suitcase full of flowing outfits all geared up for swishing in the water. With a rear light, the dress seems to work though.
Natural
This shoot was the first time I used my new Sony 85mm f1.8 lens. I'm rather pleased with it although the model may not forgive me for showing the wrinkles here. I'm not that advanced at Photoshop enough to remove the laughter lines and anyways I like it as it was!
It also makes me realise that whilst I've done many photoshoots before quite a few of the models could be described as miserable. Desne is far from miserable; it was a laugh a minute for 4 hours!
Can you kick it?
Yes she can....
About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
