I've been invited to a group photoshoot next Sunday with a bunch of models and photographers, shooting around Sheffield city centre. I have a problem with that.
On the one hand, who wouldn't want to spend time with a bunch of attractive models? The trouble is that at least two of the models attending I don't want to shoot at all. One just looks plain weird and who on earth decided that she was attractive enough to consider modelling? And the other model looks like she's just snorted half of Columbia's finest products up her nose and incidentally has hounded me with messages wanting to shoot.
On the other hand, the location is pretty shit. The light on a grey December afternoon will be awful; pretty much guaranteed. The location is in a district of Sheffield which is very much uninspiring. I know this because I just checked....
Rant over and my point is, and I made my mind up, just say no! I never thought when I started out in model photography that I wouldn't want to shoot. That was a revelation!
These shots were made on several successful photoshoots organised by The models were great everytime (and attractive). I didn't get hounded by any models and everyone always has a laugh. Thanks Brian!
Lauren
This is probably the "click bait" image for this post! I don't tend to have much control over what the model wears in group shoots but I strangely didn't have anything to complain about!
The Jilted Bride
Shooting with Nikki was always a blast. I asked her to look like she's been jilted at the altar and how she might react. I asked two other photographers to hold on to the "dress" we fashioned and drop it as I shot the image. The "dress" is actually Nikki wearing a net curtain wrapped around her.
Nix in the nude
I like this image for all the wrong reasons. Another group shoot in Brian's studio where I didn't expect Nix to be in the nude. I never met a model so uninhibited and comfortable in their own skin.
Rox strikes a pose
I'm always looking for new ideas and I thought this was a good idea at the time. I liked the idea of the model's face being so overexposed she ends up looking alien-like. I thought it was ace but when I posted it to social media, it went down like a lead balloon. No-one liked it much. I actually don't worry about things like that nowadays because I liked it because it's unique and that's what counts. And for the record, Rox still has use of her eyes!
Nikki the Knife
Nikki again still looking like she just killed her husband....
Cat Valkyrie
One of my favourite shots with Cat on an "Apocalypse" photoshoot before she lost all the weight. I placed a gelled strobe behind Cat and another softboxed strobe to the front. She always manages to look serious in the images but she was a hoot to work with!
Electric Harley Quinn
In 's studio, it's possible to completely black out the space to make it dark enough for lightpainting.
This shot involves the model standing in front of a huge studio octabox and firing at f11 which leaves a silhouette where Lauren is stood. Lauren then moves out of the frame and I fill the space with a home made RGB light tool, easy once you work it out!
Bryony rocking the wet look
This was an early model shoot for me. I showed myself how easy it was to light up a white background and give it colour.
About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
